Hi everyone! It’s been a decade since there has been a ‘Happy Music Monday’ (je suis desole). Life was pretty busy, got hit by the flue and other random stuff. I promise to post a lot more this year. But… let’s bring the music back! They say that true love never dies, right? That’s what I was thinking when I heard Imagine Dragon’s new song ‘Believer’. Okay, Justin Bieber also popped up in my mind, but I have been a huge fan of these guys since releasing their first work in 2012.
Without doubt I think ”Believer” is easy going to be a favorite. Strong lyrics, raw beats. Plus, it was heard during the Superbowl commercial for Nintendo. The song is all about how to deal with pain in general. Frontman Dan explained: “This last year has been the most positive of my life. This song explains my realization that the emotional pain I faced the last few years actually helped me progress to a healthier mental space. Those difficulties truly are what helps you become a believer in yourself.”
In case you haven’t been on social media this weekend, you were totally missing out something! Yesterday Little Mix made their comeback on The X Factor with their new single and girlpower anthem ‘Shout Out To My Ex’. As you can assume, it’s a heartbreak song, but with a happy twist.
Although the song got mixed reviews (some people were claiming that the song was a rip-off from GRL’s ‘Ugly Heart’), I think it’s still a fun song that a lot of people can relate too. Shout Out To My Ex’ is Little Mix’s first single of the new album Glory Days, which will be released on November the 18th. I AM SO EXCITED!!!
For the album the girls worked with Meghan Trainor, produced some songs with MNEK and even Charlie Putt wrote a song for the ladies. According to Jade, the album is filled with brilliant pop-songs: “There’s this one song that I think our vocals are just, like, crazy. The only way is up – we’ve never really dipped. I feel like we’ve kept this progression, but we’re still striving for more,” Leigh says. “Hopefully this will be the album where we just go BAM! and explode. It’s everything we want in life.” What do you think of Little Mix’s new song? Watch it out!
Words can’t express how much I adore Shawn Mendes! Maybe I’m a little too late to join the Mendes party, but… it’s better late than never, right? I’m so thrilled for his new album Illuminate (coming out this month, 23rd of September). We’ve already heard ‘Treat You Better’ and ‘Ruin’, but ‘Three Empty Words’ is possibly my favorite track so far. Leave it up to Shawn to write a break-up song that sounds like a sweet, bubbly falling-in-love kind of track. Through the acoustic vocals, Shawn sings how both feel that there’s nothing left anymore. Instead of being angry, Shawn accept this and is ready to move on. Sad, yet so relatable. ‘
I believe in the power of music’ told Mendes, the genius himself once. It’s true, he proves it over and over again with his songs.
‘No’, that is the bold statement that Meghan Trainor is making with her new single: ‘My Name is NO, My sign is NO, My number’s NO, jams the 22-year old singer. A refreshing point of view compared to her ‘All About That Bass’, which received many criticism. With ‘NO’ Meghan wanted a song that was more raw, much more anger than her work in her first debut album Title. Meghan explained to Billboard:
“I sat down with [Epic CEO] L.A. Reid and said, ‘I have my album done,’ and he said, ‘No, you don’t, you don’t have a single,'” Trainor tells Billboard. “And I looked at him like he was crazy — I was pissed off. And I said, ‘All right Mr. Reid, I’m going to write you a single right now. And I went to the studio and said, ‘I need a big, angry anthem’ and it turned into an awesome woman anthem about being independent.”
After the meeting Meghan went quite upset back to the studio and recorded ‘NO’ in already seven hours. “We harnessed that fiery energy and made ‘NO’ in about seven hours. It was magical”, her producer Ricky Reed told. ‘NO’ has still quite the familiar retro sound that you are used of Meghan’s music. It has some 90’s vibes and the bass is killing it.
Ladies, ‘NO’ is the power anthem. Bring it on!
Meghan’s sophomore album Thank You is due out on 13 May. You can already pre-order it on here.
I’m extremely thrilled to share you the new single of The 1975! The lads of Manchester have worked hard on the new album, I like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unware Of It (which will be released on the 26th of February). Frontman Matt Healy told last year in an interview with music blog Music Feeds, that they would spend the whole year (2015) working hard on the new record. He already explained back then: ““We’re from Manchester, Macclesfield, and the first record was about the rain, and this second record is about not being in the rain and doing whatever the fuck you want in the sun.” Sounds quite exciting, isn’t it? 🙂 ‘The Sound’ is a bit different than the band’s previous singles like ‘Ugh!’ and ‘Love Me’. These 2 were much rock, while the vocal melodies of ‘The Sound’ is way more catchy and funky. “Well I know when you’re around, cause I know the sound, I know the sound of your heart” is that moment when Matt starts with the intro, you completely fall in love with the track. Although I like their previous work with singles like ‘Girls’ and ‘Chocolate’, which were definitely more indie-rock, I like the path that they took with the new record. The band already had a huge fan base, but I think that with ‘The Sound’ they will even make more friends. Wanna check The 1975 live? You can find all tour dates here!
